Evan’s Garden News: Oxygen and Your Health

We all know that oxygen is essential for human and animal life. But few are aware that many people are actually deficient in this vital element, and that this deficiency can lead to a host of illnesses, including cancer.

Common causes of oxygen deficiency include poor ventilation of indoor spaces, improper, shallow breathing, chemical toxicity, exposure to carbon monoxide from air pollution (car exhaust or other sources), and the depletion of available oxygen in densely populated urban areas where cars, industry and heating systems consume huge quantities of oxygen and where the plants that would replace that oxygen have been paved over with concrete and asphalt.

To improve one’s health, energy and sense of well-being, it’s important to make sure one is getting enough oxygen. Here are some tips to assist you:

1. Get plenty of fresh, outdoor air. If you have a wooded area in which you may walk in the middle of the day, take a good long walk there. Also, have your dwelling checked by an heating/air conditioning specialist to make sure you are getting plenty of fresh air from the outside. Special Energy Recovery Ventilation Systems are available that help bring in fresh air without dramatically increasing your heating or cooling costs. 2. Breathe deeply. Sit or stand erect, not slouched. Expand your both the chest and the abdomen and pause for a few moments between breaths. You can learn excellent deep-breathing techniques in yoga classes or from books. 3. Get frequent aerobic exercise. Brisk walking, running, cycling or other activities increase the flow of oxygen throughout the body. 4. Eat smaller meals that contain lots of nutrients (not junk foods or fast food). Excessive eating depletes oxygen, and junk foods fail to supply trace elements that the body needs to take in and utilize oxygen. High-density “green foods” and the like contain vitamins, trace minerals and healthful plant chemicals:

5. Consume antioxidants in your diet. These help the body utilize oxygen more effectively and handle the inevitable waste product of oxygen activity. Common antioxidants include vitamins E, C and A, Co-Enzyme Q-10, and others. 6. Avoid air pollutants, especially the fumes from cars, gas stoves and gas heaters. Avoid oxygen-consuming chemicals such as alcohol and drugs. 7. Consume additional oxygen from other sources such as oxygenated drinking water, fresh foods and juices. Oxygen concentrators may be purchased online and used carefully, according to the instructions. (Yes, there can be too much of a good thing – even oxygen!). 8. Soak in an oxygen bath! You can create one by adding 1/2 to one quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide to a bath. But make sure to filter the toxic chlorine from your bath water:

Great Thoughts About Love

Some great thoughts about love!

“There is no remedy for love but to love more.” – Henry David Thoreau

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” -Buddha

“Love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupery

“It is wrong to think that love comes from long companionship and persevering courtship. Love is the offspring of spiritual affinity and unless that affinity is created in a moment, it will not be created for years or even generations.” – Khalil Gibran

“The thought manifests as the word. The word manifests as the deed. The deed develops into habit. And the habit hardens into character. So watch the thought and its ways with care. And let it spring from love, born out of concern for all beings.” – Buddha.

Bacteria & Healthy Skin

Do you want clear, healthy looking skin?

Believe it or not, bacteria play a key role in the health of your skin. This may seem a startling statement, especially with “anti-bacterial” products being marketed so heavily these days.

THE PROBLEM

Most of us have been carefully educated by doctors and companies to regard bacteria as microscopic enemies, waiting to pounce upon us at any moment.

Our best action, these people say, is to take antibiotics when we get sick and to “prevent” illness by slathering our bodies with anti-bacterial preparations.

The above approach is, in fact, disastrous to our health and to the environment upon which all life depends.

You see, the complex web of life on earth and in your own body would not even be possible without bacteria.

Bacteria in nature help break down and render minerals useable by plants. No bacteria = no plants = no animals!

In our own bodies, beneficial bacteria in the intestines help us digest food, they manufacture vital, calming B vitamins, they cleanse and detoxify the the digestive system, they support healthy immune function and help balance hormones.

Kill the bacteria inside an individual and you get a malnourished, sick, lethargic, and depressed or anxious person.

Such a person is an excellent candidate for medical and drug treatment.

In this condition of having depleted internal bacteria, a person’s skin and overall appearance also suffer. Acne, eczema and other skin conditions can be created or made worse as toxins inside the body push their way outward through the skin and as nutrient deficiencies manifest themselves.

THE SOLUTION

The answers to this are quite simple in fact:

1. Stop using things that kill your beneficial bacteria such as antibiotics and antibacterial products and anything containing chlorine. (Get filters on your drinking and bathing water. Use oxygen bleaches in the laundry and check out our Astonishing! powder for laundry, dishwasher and other household cleaning). 2. Eat organic foods and avoid anything with preservatives (which are mild forms of antibiotics). 3. Eliminate or greatly reduce your intake of refined sugars and carbohydrates, sodas, coffee, processed and microwaved foods, and alcohol from your diet. 4. Take probiotic, “friendly bacteria” supplements to replenish your depleted good bacteria. 5. Take an immune booster supplement to help knock out unfriendly bacteria while the friendly bacteria re-establish themselves in your body. 6. Take a “green-foods” supplement to supply yourself and the friendly bacteria the vital nutrients you are probably lacking. 7. Use only 100% natural skin and body care products without those toxic chemical preservatives.

Sure hope you find this information helpful and that you’ll pass it along to your friends.

Grains, Sugars Accelerate Aging

Research over the past few decades has demonstrated that high insulin levels, caused by the consumption of grains and sugars, are the single greatest cause of rapid aging. To look and feel young and healthy, one of the best things you can do is to eliminate sweets as well as grains (cereals, bread, pasta and the like) in favor of whole vegetables in the diet.

An excellent book you can get on the subject is “The Rosedale Diet” by Ron Rosedale, M.D. (Available at Amazon.com) Dr. Rosedale details the research in understandable terms and offers concrete suggestions and applications of the information.

The results of applying this sound information on diet include:

  • Improved skin
  • Increased energy
  • Reduced aches and pains
  • Improved flexibility
  • More balanced hormones
  • Better memory
  • A more positive outlook
  • Increased overall health

Dietary supplementation can be helpful as well, though many supplements on the market, being synthetic and unbalanced, may do more harm than good. It’s best to use whole “food-based” supplements. One good solution may be found on our supplements page.

Please note that this is not about eliminating all carbohydrates from the diet, but only those things that cause excessive insulin levels, which grains and sugars happen to do. Consuming the right KIND of carbs (as well as fats and proteins) is the key here.

I hope you find this helpful!
