Seeds of Truth

SEEDS OF TRUTH:
Knowledge, Freedom and Choice in Health

The other day I had a very sobering experience at my local health food store. I asked the produce manager if I could have the seeds of a particular fruit, as I could not find them anywhere.

These seeds, along with the seeds of almost all fruits, contain some very important nutrients, among them a very important B vitamin that in most people in “civilized” countries is woefully deficient.

The produce manager said that they could not sell these natural products because they were “banned” and “illegal”.

I just about fainted. I could not believe that a simple agricultural product from a common fruit tree could be banned from sale! My “outrage meter” was in the red zone and I so I am sure was my blood pressure.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

This amazing experience really got me thinking.

As our readers generally know, more and more people these days are seeking out “natural health” or “alternative healing” methods to deal with illnesses they or their families encounter.

Formerly the territory of chiropractors and herbalists, alternative medicine in America now boasts dozens of disciplines including advanced nutritional therapy, acupuncture, various hands-on healing methods, “energy healing” (wherein the practitioner manipulates the bio-energy field in and around the body directly), etc.

Over the years, even a few classically-trained Medical Doctors like Andrew Weil, M.D. (a graduate of Harvard Medical) have come to sing the praises of using Mother Nature to assist people to become well more swiftly and efficiently.

While alternative medicine continues to advance, my unhappy experience at the health food store showed me that have a very long way to go, not in terms of workable techniques, but in terms of a) public dissemination of truthful information about health and b) our right to make informed choices in this area.

TRUTH IN ACTION

A truth is only as valuable as it is a) known and b) acted upon.

Knowledge that is kept out of view or that may not be used by anyone might as well not even exist.

Important as it is to the survival and well-being of individuals and society, the field of health and wellness should be the focus of the most scrupulously honest and well-published research. Furthermore, individuals ought to be able to act upon such research without penalty.

Science, the press and health practitioners have the right and the responsibility to discover, disseminate and act upon truths about health and wellness. Members of the public also have the right to learn and to use these same truths.

TOUGH QUESTIONS

The best way to measure the amount of truth in any area is to ask this question: Is the condition of that area improving or declining?

For instance, if the rate of illness in a country or a population is increasing year after year, this means that the truths about that illness, its causes and so forth are a) unknown b) known to some but not by those who need the information or c) not used even if known or d) a combination of the above.

Most of us know that the rates of “degenerative”  diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes,  alzheimers, etc have been on the rise for   nearly a century. Considering that we are constantly told that science and medicine are both “advancing” at a furious pace, and that funding for research has climbed to truly staggering levels, it is reasonable to wonder why no solutions to these common scourges have yet been found.

Is it possible that important information has come to light but for some reason is not reaching the people who need it? Could it be that knowledge of actual  solutions exists but people are not free to act upon this knowledge even if they learn of it?

HONEST ANSWERS

Recently we encountered some websites that address these exact questions.

We highly recommend that you do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

WHO’S WATCHING OUT FOR US?

We thank God for the Internet – for here at last is  a channel for truth to reach the common man. But until the Internet, the world was a very different, much darker place.

Consider this: the dissemination of knowledge to the  general public on a day-to-day basis has been the role of the press (also known as the media.)

While there always exist a few “maverick” newspapers or magazines willing to go out on a limb to report the truth, few of these have ever enjoyed mass-media status. So when we speak of the most influential press outlets, we’re talking about the major daily newspapers, TV networks and so forth.

The following quote from the former editor of The New York Times is very, very revealing:

“There is no such thing in America, in world history, as an independent press. You know it and I know it. There is not one of you who dares to write your honest opinions, and if you did, you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid weekly for keeping my honest opinion out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for similar things, and any of you who would be so foolish as to write honest opinions would be out on the street looking for another job. If I allowed my honest opinion to appear in one issue of my paper, before twenty-four hours my occupation would be gone. You know it and I know it, and what folly is this – toasting an independent press? We are the tools and vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are the jumping jacks, they pull the strings and we dance. Our talents, our possibilities and our lives are all the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes.” – John Swinton, former editor of The New York Times, addressing fellow colleagues at the New York Press Club.

CONCLUSION

We invite you, our reader, to really dig into these issues, draw your own conclusions, find your own truths and to act accordingly. Knowledge is power. Seek it out. Think for yourself. Pass it on.

The world is in quite a mess right now, as most of us know.

But our planet can be a much, much, much better place. Should you feel powerless or inadequate, “just one person,” let me remind you that in actual fact, groups do not exist. The only reality in the abstraction called “society” is the individual. A group is simply more than one individual united by a common purpose working in coordination. But is YOU who count most – your drive, your dedication, your initiative, your caring.

YOU put the life into any activity you do. And there is no real limit to what you can accomplish.

We appreciate your support and your good work.

“Natural” – Reality vs. Hype

The buzz is all about green.

“Natural” is a word that’s everywhere nowadays. If you care, you are “green.” Big corporations, seemingly joining the bandwagon, sink zillions into public relations campaigns and wave banners of world-saving crusades. Their websites warble to us, ““We’re responsible; we forward what is good and natural,” their products look the part, packaged in colors and materials that evoke “natural.” Labels suggest that what’s inside is what a person would think of as natural and safe.

Is it true? When you look beyond the expensively crafted facade, what IS inside those containers? Little even vaguely reminiscent of nature or bearing its life. You may find that image and actuality do not in truth match.

Look for the real thing

There’s a push, too, for use of Latin names for ingredients. The “logic” is, people anywhere can read this since the words are the same in any country; they’re in Latin. Have you spoken or read any Latin lately? The actual effect is more screen: just about no one can understand what these ingredients are, even if they are natural. So why make us have to write these in an ancient language only very few scholars recognize? The Latin terms make the most natural of substances appear as if it were unnatural!

Read labels and look up the words in cosmetic dictionaries. It all becomes clear. Most of what is in there (except for stuff like formaldehyde produced by mixing some of the chemicals together) is on labels.

Health Food Stores, Even Handcrafters May Deceive

Take refuge in a health food store? Inside its hallowed aisles you’d expect to find only natural and safe personal care products. Were it only so. The truth is that a number of products there are mostly natural; a very few are completely natural. To my puzzlement, I’ve also found that lots of so-called “handcrafters” use the usual, cheap junk along with some natural ingredients. The beach is crowded with stylish, tanned surfers riding the big, exciting waves of consumer desire for natural.

When companies, huge to small, dress in natural and responsible garb and still the world is a toxic mess, still illness darkens the lives and takes the lives of ever more people, something is amiss. We may be less healthy, not more, or scarcely more healthy for all the so-called natural products.

Are we all dancing frantically at a masquerade ball where toxic garbage is cleverly posing as “natural”? Is the scarcely natural ingredient or two in that homey-looking bottle just specks in an otherwise chemical soup?

The ACTUAL green movement is wonderful and so vitally necessary. But if corporate dollars were supporting the truly green — the organic farmers and those who protect the planet’s natural vital resources upon which all life does depend — wouldn’t our world be improving? Wouldn’t it be getting greener? Wouldn’t people be feeling more chipper?

Something You Can DO About It

What can you do about this?

1)    It may be tough at first to tell the bogus from the genuine, but it is not that hard. Read and bother to clear up labels as above. After you’ve done some of this, you’ll be able to tell at a glance.

2)    Decide to insist on the real thing, seek those rare companies out, support them and tell others. Maybe it’ll become less rare.

3)    Send your dollars as votes for honesty and responsibility in the marketplace. Money keeps the good enterprises around and expanding.

Standards: What We Mean by Natural

When we say that our organic skin care and other products are natural, we mean that in the most common sense of the word. What is natural to you? a mountain stream? Sunshine, wild animals, plants, that sort of thing? Yes, those are natural. We think of a chemical cooked up by scientists as not natural.

As a note, “natural” in terms of personal care product formulation is not just “existing in nature.” Snake venom, belladonna and dangerous viruses are part of nature and have their place in the complex ecology of life but I wouldn’t want them in my personal care products, would you? So “from nature” is not the only requisite.

Safe, natural ingredients and those coming from nature with the least interference as in corruption or degradation from the full, living state. From plant rather than animal in virtually any instance. As closely as possible, in whole, ripened, healthiest condition. Unrefined, cold-pressed plants, low heat-dried whole herbs. Steam-distilled rather than solvent-extracted essential oils. We need the botanical goodness to be as alive and complete as possible.

There is a vast difference between unmessed-with plants and ingredients derived from plants but extracted with solvents and by other contaminating and life-stripping methods. To give you an idea of how repellant this is, think of soaking your olives in paint thinner rather than vinegar.

These ingredients perform like (and do some of the same damage as) certain chemical counterparts whose safety has been loudly questioned. So, plant-derived synthetics are about as bad as something that never saw a stalk or root in its existence.

Merchandizing, quite a game. Notice the pleasant implications of the word, “refined” — seems to mean “brought back to being fine,” or “elegant,” doesn’t it? When you learn about all the steps of it, you don’t want any such near your body. Bleccch. It’s tainted with noxious solvents; stripped of its essence to make its color acceptable (= almost no color) and to get rid of its scent. This really is a shame. Those things taken out were the heart and personality of the plant! When you see the word, “refined,” think “plant corpse.”

So, we reject all that might give us the financial edge big corporations enjoy if it means compromising health and integrity. No petrochemicals, hormone-mimicking or otherwise questionable preservatives, artificial “fragrances,” fillers, sodium lauryl sulfate, propylene glycol, TEA, methyl paraben, FD & C colors — we’re free of all that.

Plants do a better job anyway. We respond most immediately, as parts of the same natural world, to things of nature. Plants work with our bodies, not against or despite them. They are lovely to smell and feel inimitably good. They cost more as they take more time and more care — they grow — but isn’t this worth the bother?

The Reward of Taking Action

Everything one does to uplift, enhance, improve self and others buys one more health, happiness and personal fulfillment. We hope that you are striving to live an uncompromised Life, to share good things with others and to have the courage to tell it like it is. It’s worth the effort.

Thanks for being there and caring!

Laughing at the Plague: How to take control of your own immune system and survive

Every few years despite “modern science and precautions,” a new deadly virus threatens to become a “plague”. SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) is certainly scary. It has killed hundreds of people since being reported just months ago. Whole hospitals are going up to accommodate its victims.

Officials in public health departments focus on quarantines, travel warnings and drugs in their responses to such crises. But never do we see them mention natural IMMUNE SYSTEM BOOSTING as an action that individuals can and should take to protect themselves.

We’ve always thought this rather odd.  The best and sometimes only real defense against illness is a functional immune system. Why do we not see any mention of this in the reports from mainstream media and doctors when new viruses and diseases are discussed?

We hear of travel advisories, surgical masks, washing hands frequently, etc. Sensible precautions but far from substitutes for a good immune system.

Perhaps the powers-that-be consider that we ought to feel very endangered or intimidated by every virus that comes along. Might this have any tie with the money they can make from us to “fight”
the menace?

How about empowering us with information about things we can DO OURSELVES to protect against coming down with these diseases even if we do come in contact with them?

We need to be proactive and take matters into our own hands.

Here is some good info on immune boosting for the rest of us.

1. Eat more raw foods.

2. Drink lots of fresh spring water.

3. Avoid chlorine.

4. Avoid toxic chemicals in the environment and in personal care products.

5. Eat specific immune boosting foods. These include fresh raw garlic, onions, and some others (more info below).

6. Take a good probiotic supplement to replace intestinal flora. These friendly bacteria are a key part of the immune system. A good flora may be found at:
http://organicbeautycompany.com/pages/iflora.html

7. Take a dietary supplement containing immune boosting foods. An excellent, very potent one is called SuperImmune Boost. You can find it at:
http://organicbeautycompany.com/pages/immune.html

Here are a few of the properties of some immune-boosting herbs and foods and why you should consume more such foods and herbs in your diet:

*Garlic — nature’s powerful antibiotic. Additionally, garlic has a rejuvenative effect on all body function and may stimulate healthy cell growth and activity. Garlic has been found to help dissolve cholesterol in the bloodstream, to open up the blood vessels and reduce blood pressure and to assist the lymphatic system in throwing off waste. As a fun aside, it is a Jewish tradition for a wife to serve her husband garlic on a Friday night to help empower him sexually and increas chances of conception.

*Ginger Root — terrific for the respiratory system and helps the body fight off colds and flu. It may help clean the kidneys, detoxify the bowels and has been in use for ages as a digestive aid.

*Horseradish Root — with antibiotic action, may help in case of respiratory, urinary and other infections. Horseradish may assist kidney function and aids digestion and metabolism.

*Habanero Pepper — improves blood circulation by equalizing blood pressure throughout the body. Increasing heart action but not blood pressure, it’s been useful in cases of internal and external hemorrhaging. A harmless internal disinfectant, cayenne plays a vital role in our tonic. Taken with other herbs, cayenne increases their assimilation and thus their power. It also supports the body’s efforts to rebuild tissue in the stomach and may be useful in the case of stomach and intestinal ulcers.

*White Onion — an oft-overlooked but powerful healer more often relied upon in earlier eras than nowadays. It has been used to lower fevers and help the body expel mucus. It’s a wonderful tonic, too, for the hair, nails and skin plus it lubricates the skin, joints, muscles, chest and kidneys. Onion helps disperse acids and can be used as an effective laxative.

*Apple Cider Vinegar — raw and unfiltered, good old apple cider vinegar does much, much more than simply provide the base for the tonic’s other ingredients. It is itself a very active ingredient: helps fight germs and bacteria naturally, assists in the regulation of calcium metabolism, helps correct blood consistency,  regulate a woman’s menstruation, aids the digestion and assimilation of food and helps control weight. It normalizes the urine, thus lessening a frequent urge to urinate, can offer relief for sore throats, laryngitis and throat tickles, helps clear out toxins, aids respiration so that one can breathe more easily, helps maintain healthy skin and prevent itching scalp, dry hair and baldness, helps removes toxins and crystals from the joints, tissues and organs.

*Wild Oregano Oil in virgin olive oil — very recent studies on wild oregano oil and olive leaf extract (below) are revealing them to be perhaps Nature’s very most potent, yet safe antimicrobials.

*Olive Leaf Extract — similar in effect to wild oregano oil. Powerful stuff!! (And we find they make this quite delicious, too.)

Such herbs and foods may be the answer to living in a world of growing microbiological threats. Of course, you may take other precautions in specific circumstances and avoid putting yourself in harm’s way.

But we think the best approach is to build a strong immune system and a great reserve of fundamental health through good nutrition and clean living.

Do a good job of taking care of yourself using the awesome powers of Mother Nature. Then get just get on with life and, as the song goes, “Don’t worry, be happy!”

Hope this data is useful to you!

Love,

Evan

The End of Fad Diets: Bringing Sanity to Our Food Choices

THE END OF FAD DIETS:
BRINGING SANITY TO OUR FOOD CHOICES

At Organic Beauty, we strongly advocate that people take care of themselves in sensible ways that will increase their health, energy and youthfulness. Using all-natural cosmetic products such as ours is just one component of a healthy lifestyle.

A healthful diet is hugely important. However, what IS a healthful diet?

Famous “diet gurus” including Pritikin, Atkins and others have made $millions selling diets that offer opposite advice. Not one of these has ever impressed us enough to embrace or to recommend. Each seemed overgeneralized to us and struck us as more fad than sensible science.

Fortunately for all of us, someone has come along to pop the balloon of over-hyped fad diets and bring real sense to a once confusing scene.

Researcher and author William L Wolcott has provided the most brilliant solutions to dietary issues that we have ever encountered.

His landmark book, The Metabolic Typing Diet, is an amazing read.

Just looking at this book helped us shake off the effects of false data and generalities about diet that we had been fed for so many years by doctors and the media. We brightened up so much after reading it that we were overjoyed.

To find out in detail what has been going on in the field of diet and to get an idea of just how important this book is, read on…

The End of One-Size-Fits-All Diets

For many years, health consumers have been overwhelmed with complex and often sharply contradictory information about what to eat in order to feel well and stay healthy and fit. And, recently,
all the confusion about what represents a healthy diet has erupted into a major diet controversy in the national media.

The current diet debate is focused on the all-important issue of macronutrient consumption – in other words, health experts everywhere disagree strongly about how much of the major nutrients – protein, carbohydrate and fat – people should be eating.

For instance, some nutrition experts are big proponents of low-fat, low-protein, high carbohydrate diets. They contend that diets high in fatty foods like meat, cheese and vegetable oil will expand our
waistlines, clog our arteries and put us all on the fast track to senility and premature death. Many of these experts advise us to cut fat intake to a bare minimum and stick to light vegetarian fare based on grains and fruits and vegetables.

Other leading nutritional gurus advocate just the opposite — diets high in protein and fat and low in carbohydrates. They believe that the only way people can combat serious health disorders like obesity and heart disease is to heavily restrict their consumption of carbohydrates (like fruits, grains, breads and pasta), while making proteins (meat and fish and poultry) the mainstay of every meal.

Still other experts are firm believers in “40-30-30” diets — in other words, they believe that all meals and snacks should be comprised of protein, carbohydrate and fat in a precise 40-30-30 ratio. In
some people, this approach prevents certain kinds of unwanted hormonal shifts which, if left unchecked over time, contribute to serious chronic health problems — including obesity, atherosclerosis, cancer, diabetes and chronic fatigue.

Countless other diets also compete for our attention, all promising similar kinds of long-lasting health benefits — energy and fitness and disease-free lives — despite the fact that they too offer sharply contradictory advice.

A quick stroll down the health and fitness aisle of your local bookstore reveals a dizzying array of choices — macrobiotic diets, raw food diets, celebrity diets, organic food diets, rotation diets, dairy-free diets, sugar-free diets, cardiovascular diets, cancer prevention diets, diets for athletes, diets for women, diets to slow the aging process, diets to strengthen immunity, diets to combat depression or fatigue, cholesterol-free diets, hypoglycemic diets, and on and on.

The primary problem for health consumers is this: since the market is flooded with so many dietary options, and so much conflicting advice and opinion, people are left feeling confused, not knowing
how to make sense of it all. Since people have no way to make rational dietary choices, they’re forced into a process of endless experimentation, forced to play a never-ending game of “dietary roulette.”

In other words, the most profound limitation of virtually all diet and nutrition books is that they’re based on a system of chance. Since these books offer generic rather than customized dietary advice — the programs they describe work fairly well for some people some of the time. That’s why most nutritional books offer up a decent range of positive case histories.

But case histories can be very misleading. The real barometer of the value of any nutritional system is whether it can be relied upon to produce consistent and reliable clinical results for anyone who
chooses to use it. This is simply impossible with diet and nutrition books now on the market.

In contrast, The Metabolic Typing Diet is based on a completely different and truly revolutionary scientific technology (metabolic typing) which is the very essence of inclusion, precision, predictability.

Metabolic typing takes the guesswork out of nutritional science, and it doesn’t leave anyone behind. It’s an advanced but very easy and accessible methodology that anyone can use to rapidly cut
through the information glut of confusing fact and opinion and accurately assess their own unique nutritional requirements.

The Metabolic Typing Diet is a truly revolutionary book that provides what has long been desperately needed: a systematic, testable, repeatable, verifiable means for each of us to find an answer to the question, “What’s right for me?”

You’ll be truly amazed at the many health and fitness benefits you’ll experience when you consistently eat according to your metabolic type. Here are a few highlights:

– achieve your ideal weight and stay there

– lose weight without deprivation and struggle

– free your self from food cravings and hunger

– enjoy sustained high energy and endurance

– bolster your immunity and resist infections

– conquer indigestion, fatigue, allergies

– overcome depression, anxiety, mood swings that have a physical basis

– prevent and reverse chronic illness

We HIGHLY recommend this book!

We hope this information proves as helpful to you has it has to us.

Love and thanks,
Evan
